When did your running journey begin?
My journey began in the year 2008. I was in my early 30s and my annual health check showed a higher reading of cholesterol. My doctor gave me a choice to either start living an active lifestyle or take ‘statins’ for the rest of my life. That trigger helped me get started. The very next day, I attempted to run & walk 3 km and struggled. Then I started bicycling for a while and eventually got introduced to RFL runs and did my first ever 10km. Since then, I have never missed a single week of training.
So far, I have completed over 50 half marathons and 12 full marathons. The most recent one was the first world major TCS New York Marathon that was held on 4th November 2018.
As a family, we live a healthy and active life. My wife loves long distance walking & hiking, My daughter ran her first 10km at the age of 9, my son runs 5km often with me.
When did you run your first KTM with RFL? Do you have any fond memories attached to the race?
The first KTM I ran was a half marathon at their 5th edition in 2011. Some fond memories that I can recollect is that of happiness and joy as I ran along the river Kaveri for the very first time. I truly discovered my love for running with KTM. Such a run can be enjoyed by both seasoned runners as well as first-timers.
What sets KTM apart from other trail runs?
The serene surroundings of the trail, away from the noise, pollution, and traffic of the city truly sets KTM apart from any other. The sound of the river Kaveri flowing beside the trail keeps you enthusiastic till the end of the run. The best part of this race is you get to take a dip in the cool waters of the river Kaveri at the end.
Should KTM be a part of every runner’s journey? If yes, why?
Yes. With a river flowing beside the trail and the lush green fields around, this definitely accounts for an experience that everyone would enjoy. KTM is a must-have in every runner’s marathon list. Apart from that, it’s a race you can take your entire family to. The run is organized right beside the famous Rangantittu bird sanctuary which is a great place to go to after the run.
How does long distance running help you in your professional career and in your daily life?
Whether it is business or personal life, overnight success just takes 10 years
Long distance running teaches you to be patient & persistent. I believe if one puts consistent & sustained efforts on a daily basis, impossible is nothing. I don’t recall missing a single week of training for the past 10 years (520 weeks) and as a result, I run marathon distance at ease.
Similarly, I started my investment journey in the year 2001. Without missing a single month of SIP & regularly increasing my SIP, in line with my salary increases, I became financially independent around the year 2015.
Just keep at it, keep the belief & you will win sooner than later is my daily mantra.
