Consumerisation of HR

It’s the best feeling in the world to come home at the end of a long and tiring day at work to be greeted by a hot cup of coffee served just how you like it! Switch on the TV and programmes which you follow are suggested for you. This personalisation makes a world of difference and imagine if it was available at the workplace! It could become the hiring differentiator for companies.

Consumerisation of HR’ is the term given to this kind of personalisation of the workforce. This concept is the new frontier.  It focuses on delivering a wholesome employee experience! Employees today expect a modern, consumerised experience at work and denying them could cause them to jump ship faster than ever before! Workplace futurist Jeanne Meister described this Consumerisation of HR in Forbes, saying, “The new objective is to create one employer brand which provides a seamless experience for current employees, potential employees, and consumers… to create the type of memorable employee experiences we associate with extraordinary customer experiences.”

However, this concept will mean different things to different companies. It will require companies to have a holistic view regarding the choices they make both for employees and customers. It can be an expression of the culture and identity of an organisation. But, what are the tools one can use to effectively deliver this positive employee experience?

Here are a few suggestions based on our experience:

Create a unique brand identity for your wellness programs

You can work with the marketing team within the company to develop a brand identity with your employee experience program.

Innovation is Key

Transform corporate wellness programs by making fitness fun for everyone! Use gamification and products like League Of The Fit to improve the health and fitness of each employee.

Personalise programs however possible

Tailor-made programs in the areas of health checks, webinars and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) could offer great value to employees.

Always measure the efficacy of the programs

Gather feedback and collate information as to how well the different programs are working in the organisation and if they are yielding the desired results.
